Every woman wants to look and feel beautiful on her wedding day, and if we’re going to be honest, that’s especially true when it comes to the bridal bodice. Except that with the wedding media filled with images of glamazon models, sculpted into wedding dresses and flaunting Goddess-like bosoms, it can easily become a little, well, deflating for a bride-to-be who’s not feeling very confident in her bust!
Take heart, bridal beauties. Whether you’re perfectly petite or beautifully busty, there’s a whole world of gorgeous bras and accessories to make the most of your one-of-a-kind wonders on your wedding day.
Small and Sassy
The bride-to-be who proves that beautiful things come in small packages may find that getting a good, snug fit around the bust of her wedding dress is a little tricky. A padded bra will help with filling out the bodice, but best to keep any padding light for under a wedding dress. The idea is to look like ‘you’ on your big day rather than surprising everyone with a Dolly Parton-like version of you.
On most days A and smaller B-cupped busts can get away without an underwire bra. But if ever there was a day to get wired for optimal shaping and lift, it’s a gal’s wedding day. For various shoulder-baring wedding dress styles, we love the sleek simplicity of this 1693 This Is Not A Bra Strapless Bra by Warners, specialized for smaller busts.
Another one of our favourites is the 37104302 Lissi Strapless Bra by Change of Scandinavia features feminine floral lace and is underwired with light padding to give a smaller bust a little boost.
For sleeved wedding dresses that are coming back en vogue, a padded bra with thin straps will give a petite bust nice form and lift. The lacy 3033 Padded Underwire Push-Up Bra by Triumph is so versatile, with delicate straps that can be adjusted to halter or criss cross, and with either clear or traditional straps.
A strapless gown on a smaller bust can become ‘shelfed’, or gape off the chest. Along with altering the bodice, if you’re small enough to go sans bra, ask your seamstress to sew bra pads (or pockets for bra pads) into the bust of your dress for a snug fit and subtle enhancement. These Push Up Bra Pads by Bra Doctor will do just the trick to slip into ready-made pockets for covert lift. Check out these pads in our video: Small Boobs: 5 Most Common Bra Fitting Problems SOLVED!
Voluptuous Vixen
The buxom bride needs the full treatment from her bra: firm support, underwiring, comfort and the great coverage that only comes with a properly-fitted bra. Its fine to be sexy in a sophisticated way with some mild cleavage, but the last thing a full busted bride wants is to fall out of her dress while bending over to sign the registry, or bouncing out of control on the dance floor among relatives.
Today’s larger-busted brides can choose from a fabulous selection of sexy bras, with brands like Curvy Kate offering an array of cup sizes ranging from 28D to 40K. For maximum coverage and femininity this CK501 Romance Balcony bra gives a stunning shape fit plus a little ‘something blue’ with floral embroidery tickling the bustline. For the busty bride who wants extra insurance against bursting out over the top of her bodice, or just looking to bring it down a notch, the Naturana line of minimizer bras have tailored, moulded cups that make breasts appear slightly less voluminous.
Nothing says foxy and feminine like a lacy corset. For the bigger busted bride going strapless, a corset is an excellent option by offering excellent support by extending from waist to mid-bust. The 6121 Sheer Lace Corset by Grenier has supportive boning to set off an hourglass figure, plus the added bonus of separate lacings on the top and bottom portions for a precise fit. If you can, ask your seamstress to integrate a corset style into your dress’s bodice, if the dress doesn’t already have a corset top.
Medium Marvel
For brides with a bust that’s somewhere in between itty-bitty and bodacious, a medium support bra with some mild push-up will add to the look of being poured into your wedding dress. The 2978 Full Fashion Convertible bra by Triumph, from 34B to 40DD, has a seamless look and just the right support for moderately endowed women and can optionally be worn strapless. Sumptuously sexy balcony bras in general are designed to flatter by giving uplift and a fuller shape (take a peek at some gorgeous balcony bras we have available).

10 years agoThis is so true! It can be difficult to find quality wedding lingerie for the larger-bosomed lady that are sophisticated. I opted for a corset for my wedding and was not disappointed, I made sure I took it to all my dress fittings too so the two worked in harmony.
