The tone of the Golden Globes was a little bit different this year, and it’s no surprise with all that’s happened in Hollywood recently.

As many of you know, there was a pact made among many actresses and actors to wear black and avoid naming labels to this year’s award show in protest of the gross imbalance of power in Hollywood that led to years of hidden abuse unveiled later last year. This protest is in support of the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, which aims to help survivors afford proper legal defense to find justice.

In honor of this movement, we’re going to focus on participants of the protest and their beautiful black ensembles that spoke volumes both in the fashion world and in the realm of change. We’re opting out of rating the looks for this event – instead, we’re just mentioning some of the looks we really loved.

Margot Robbie

We love how the long sleeve and exaggerated shoulders balance out the plunging neckline of Margot Robbie’s choice.

The dramatic silver details add a nice sparkle to the black frock, which is incredibly elegant. Margot went with a saturated pink lip and minimal eye makeup to tie together the look nicely.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones always looks so beautiful and elegant, and we love how she went the adventurous route and tried a lingerie-inspired look.

Smartly placed embroidery covers the chest, and some high waisted panties cover the rest. The long mesh and embroidery train is also a beautiful touch, and the pop of green in her earrings is a nice contrast.

Allison Janney

This gown that Allison Janney wore is proof that, with the perfect tailoring, a long sleeved dress can be just as sexy as one that shows some skin.

Allison looks radiant in this figure-flattering dress, with interesting conceptual details featuring cutouts and white filling for a very interesting result. It’s a very stunning dress on a very stunning actress!

When done properly, a combination of many details can be just right.

Take Zuri’s choice this year – polka dots, ruffles, mesh, and lace sound like they could be too much, but this dress has the right balance of each element. Her tousled wavy bob and blue eyeshadow really make this ensemble a unique yet sophisticated look.

Kerry Washington

Does anyone else absolutely love Kerry Washington’s shoes?

A fun bootie makes any look a little edgier, not that a sequin asymmetrical gown needs any help looking super cool. Kerry shows off her figure with a sinched waist, and her curls and muted makeup balance out her overall vibe. Such a cool outfit!

Alexis Bledel

We love ourselves a good pantsuit!

Alexis looked beautiful in a black and white pantsuit, with cute leaf detail hugging her torso, and a funky black belt that glided down her bottom half. Her dark lip really brought out her eyes, which are so brightly blue she doesn’t need any other color!
