Spring is the season in which new life blossoms, and this season’s trends are no exception. Although we see the continuation of crop tops, leather, and luxurious textures on the runways, there are a lot of new things to add to your wardrobe in Spring that haven’t been seen for quite some time. There are new colours to try, fun patterns to experiment with, and rich fabrics to don. With a fresh year beginning, consider some of these revitalizing trends to kick up your style a notch.

Flared Pants

The skinny pant has been a staple for years, ever since the skinny jean rose to fame. However, construction is breaking down and leg lines are blooming out; the flared pant is the pant to have. Designers such as Tom Ford, Elisabetta Franchi, and Cynthia Rowley are clearly fans of the more relaxed pant. A flared pant works for any body type, with attention paid to where the start of the flare hits your knee. Whether it’s a jean, a dress pant, or a casual pair of slacks, it’s all about comfort and breathability; the focus of fashion the last few seasons. No one has made a stronger style case for a flared pant than stylist Rachel Zoe, who has worn them consistently for years.

Fringe

In the early 2000s, fringe handbags and boots were fashion favourites among young women. Fringe is on its way back in a modern way. It’s no longer saved for native or western garb, and celebrities such as Olivia Palermo have turned heads in their own imaginations of how fringe can work in current times. Fringe meets edgy and cool when used by designers such as Givenchy, Giambattista Valli, and Proenza Schouler. Fringe delicately dangling off the neckline of a tank top or on a mini skirt at night is a tame way of incorporating one of the hottest new looks of the year.

Yellow

The colour of sunshine and happiness is also one of the highlighted hues this season. Channel Spring in a colour used brilliantly by designers such as Carolina Herrera, Chloe, and Karen Walker to name a few. Carrie Underwood appears on the January 2015 cover of Nashville Magazine looking radiant as ever in a stunningly constructed yellow dress, and we can clearly see how the flush colour can complement the skin and help it glow. Some may find it can wash out their skin tone, and so adding a yellow accessory such as a necklace or a clutch can keep you in tune with the latest colour trend. Alternatively, some of the other prominent tones on the runways included whites, blues, and pinks.

Suede

Suede is known for its warmth, its matte complexion, and luxe look. However, this season brought about new uses for the fabric than just the footwear and handbags we’re used to. Derek Lam showcased suede in pretty colours in both tops and skirts, while Jason Wu created a brilliant green jacket. Miranda Kerr clearly had the famous supermodel intel that suede (not to mention fringe) was going to be huge this season and showcased a fashion-forward ensemble featuring a suede jacket late last year.

Natural Prints

Although florals maintain their stature in spring fashion, they aren’t the only print necessary for a springtime palette. Designers take cues from nature’s beauty and luscious landscapes to create a whole new world of prints to refresh our wardrobes. Tress, leaves, greenery, and plants are just a few motifs used to create shirts, dresses, pants, and all types of garments on the runways. You can display your inner nature lover thanks to influences from Erdem, Gucci, and Mary Katrantzou. Keira Knightly was radiant when she wore a natural print by Valentino at a recent movie event.

Designers were clearly motivated to refresh our wardrobes with some innovative new styles to try. We got the taste of some new things. There were many more trends on the runways as well, but overall, it’s about being comfortable, infusing edge, and experimenting with colours and patterns.
