Fashion Myths Regarding Breast Size Decoded

As inclusivity continues to flourish in fashion, rules that the fashion elite one stated are no longer being followed. Fashion has become much more liberated in the last few years as women want to wear what they want to wear with no apologies. Therefore, fashion insiders are more about giving tips and recommendations rather than establishing rules that one must follow or they will make the worst dressed list. Part of what these rules used to be included myths about what could or could not be worn based on breast size. On #ShopNTL, we believe every woman should be confident in her breast size and therefore, should wear what she feels. So we’ve taken some of the common myths believed about fashion and breast size and we’re decoding them for you.

Myth #1: Women with large breasts shouldn’t wear striped clothing.

Stripes are so in, and no woman should feel left out of one of the hottest trends. So many women have been told not to wear horizontal stripes; women with large breasts, and women who carry any extra weight in their midsection. We think horizontal stripes can actually be quite flattering to these body types, and depending on how they are structured, they can even enhance curves beautifully. Generally, the wider the stripes, the more flattering they are. The fit of the particular top can also come into play for how it flatters the body. Just try a few different styles and see what you love.

Myth #2: Women with small breasts shouldn’t wear plunging necklines.

It’s so not true that you need to have a certain amount of cleavage to fill out a plunging top. A plunging top, for a lot of women, isn’t even about showing off a certain amount of breastiness. For even more women, how they dress is not even about attracting male attention; it’s about wearing what speaks to her and makes her feel beautiful. We believe that women with smaller breasts should feel free to wear a low cut top or dress, and skip the push up bra if she wants to. It’s quite a striking look no matter what your breast size is.

Myth #3: Women with large breasts should wear two sports bras when working out.

WHAT?! How uncomfortable you must be if you’ve been believing this fashion rule. So many designers are making sports bras that are specifically for a large breast, with ample support to avoid any sort of damage during exercise. Wearing two sports bras, again, would be very uncomfortable, but would also be quite restricting, squishing the breasts down in an attempt to keep them under lock. There are too many options for all breasts sizes now that it’s really not necessary to even consider this.

Myth #4: Women with small breast should accentuate shoulders, nip it in at the waist, and wear dark on the bottom to create a more curvy shape.

This is a little combination of many fashion rules women with small breasts are given to try and, essentially, distract from the fact that she has smaller breasts and encourage her to create more curves. While these things will work if that is the goal, it’s no longer necessary that a woman feel as though she needs to have that hourglass shape. All body types are being embraced, and women should feel more comfortable to highlight whatever shape she has been blessed with. A woman should never feel pressured to create a certain body ideal with her clothing if she doesn’t want to.
