Maintaining The Life Of Your Lingerie

Your lingerie is beautiful, important, and necessary – so you should be taking care of it! With our busy lives, we’re so quick to throw our bras and underwear on the floor at the end of the day, or hurriedly bundle them up and put them in a very stuffed drawer. With all of the money we spend on our lingerie, we’re sabotaging their longevity by not keeping them properly. Savour all of your favourite #ShopNTL lingerie with some of our tips for maintaining the life of your lingerie.

Be Aware of Wear

Whether you own three bras or thirty, there are probably a couple that you love so much you circulate between them every other day. While you should love all your bras equally, we can understand how there is always that one or two that are just so comfortable and cute you can’t help but want to wear it all the time. But don’t neglect your other ones! You really should be circulating your bras regularly so your favourites don’t wear out too fast. If you only have one or two bras, you really need to treat yourself to a couple more so you’re not destroying the couple you have by wearing them all the time! We know they can be pricy, but completely worth it. A great tip: when you find that soulmate of a bra, buy a couple! When it comes to panties, of course you know you should be changing them daily.

Storage Wars

Keeping your bras as close to their natural shape is ideal when it comes to storage. NEVER fold your bras in half and push the cup in. It saves space, but it will kill the form of your bra which will lead to bad support, and could even damage your underwire. Dedicate a drawer to your bras, or even DIY a simple hanger contraption and hang them in your closet. For your panties, it’s best to lay them out flatly to avoid them catching on anything or losing their elasticity. Crumbling them up into a ball is doing them a disservice.

Hand Wash If You Can

One of the most important things you can do to keep your lingerie in great shape is hand wash them. Don’t groan! It’s time consuming, but time worth spending if you don’t want to see that lovely lingerie fall apart. You can simply use a gentle detergent or even get some lingerie wash, which is not very expensive and can be found at a lot of lingerie shops or bathing suit stores. In your sink or your bathtub, sprinkle some wash or detergent in the water and rub some love into your delicates.

Can’t Hand Wash?

For busy mommies and working girls, hand washing may not be feasible most of the time. If that’s the case, it’s okay. We have several options of mesh wash bags in various sizes that are super affordable and will surpass your expectations of how they protect your delicates and your bras. Stuff your lingerie in these bags before throwing them in the washing machine. Our Bra Doctor uses these, and she says they have made a huge difference for the life of her lingerie.

Hang Me Up To Dry

Whichever method of washing you use is fine, just be sure to never, EVER, put your lingerie in the dryer. The heat and the motion are going to break down the fibres of your bras and panties and will only help them fall apart faster. You really should hang dry your bras and yes, even your panties, especially those little lacy numbers. Don’t think you have the space? Try this: have some extra hangers laying around (from the dollar store) and hang your lingerie on your shower rod!
