Lingerie has been taking cues from its vintage counterparts this year – like the major trend for high-waisted panties! This trend is inspired by the infamous 1940’s pin-up girl suaveness – think Dita Von Teese for that more classic tantalizing and glamourous style or Rihanna prancing around in her ‘Only Girl in the World’ music video for a more soft and sparkly essence – catered towards the 21st century girl. Various other up and coming trends are being seen around many designer collections for both lingerie and fashion.
The fashion industry is witnessing a huge blast from the past with the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s returning with Louis Vuitton’s uniform style suits, Prada’s kitten heels and Ermanno Scervino’s bell bottoms. So why not for lingerie? Since Summer 2011 focused on nice soft neutral palettes with some color residue from Spring 2011 collections, it would make sense to transition your undergarments into Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 with a more subtle and sweet look. Especially since Riccardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy’s Fall/Winter 2010 and 2011 practically kick-started the movement of the simplistic white and translucent fabrics, with the layers of textured material and immaculate beadwork that we are witnessing with many other designers’ Spring 2012 collections.
To get that light, soft, and textured look, whites are looking pretty good to begin with (you can also try some tints of pink, peach, or nude colours too!) since white exudes an angelic aura, well… in my eyes at least! And I am not talking about just a plain white piece of fabric to slip into for the night; I am preaching about finding a full-textured piece of underwear with a tornado of textiles that treats your eyes and your tactile sensibilities, at the same time!
Try having lace, silk, bows (ruffles anyone?) and some more textile sexiness going on. Personally, I love high-waisted lingerie, especially since the high waist undergarment hugs the figure from, of course, the waist to the hips, softening them into smooth curves which give you a gentle sexiness.
