Common Bra Fitting Problems & Solutions

Revised April 11, 2013 by Celine the Bra Doctor

In my experience, more than 90% of women wear the wrong bra size. Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? Many women also take several different bra sizes, depending on the shape, cut, fabric and brand of the bra. To add to the confusion, most women are not entirely symmetrical, meaning they may have uneven breasts – click here to read my blog on how to easily fix your uneven breasts.

Your shape is unique, making it sometimes difficult to find bras that are made in standard sizes. Many large-scale lingerie stores do not have experienced salespeople to help you find your best personal fit. Today I offer you one of the most common bra fitting problems, with tips on how to fix it. Over the next few blogs, you will find a comprehensive guide on how to diagnose and solve each fitting problem, along with some images that will demonstrate the proper or incorrect fitting for bras.

But first… In a previous blog, I asked you to try on each of your bras and go through a checklist of items to see if your bras were the wrong size. It’s fun to do this with your girlfriends too, and they can help you see things you can’t. If it doesn’t fit, or if the elastic is stretched out, toss it or even better – RECYCLE it! Ask yourself these questions when you try on each bra.

One of the most common issues with bra fitting is the cup size, which is what I’m going to cover in today’s blog. (You can read about how to fit your bra back and bra straps in Parts 2 & 3 of Common Bra Fitting Problems & Solutions.) I have seen some women with red lines underneath their arms and breasts from where their too-small underwires dug into them painfully. This is NO GOOD!

Time for a reality check. It’s normal to change sizes and shapes over time. If your bras don’t fit you, don’t keep buying the same size. I have actually met women who refused to wear D cups because in their minds, that was too big. Size doesn’t matter as long as you’re comfortable in your bra. Seriously. If you don’t like it, cut out the tags! It’s not worth walking around all day long in discomfort, not to mention unhealthy!

Here’s how to find out if your cup size is working for you. First, make sure the rest of your bra is properly adjusted to be able to evaluate. This is where the bra fitting checklist above can come in handy.

How do you know if your bra straps are adjusted properly? Adjust your straps until you can comfortably slip your index finger between them and your shoulders, and without the straps cutting into your finger or slipping off your shoulders when you remove your hand.

How do you adjust your bra back? Your bra back is adjusted when you are able to comfortably fasten it on the middle or loosest hooks of your bra back closure without any bunching or causing bumps and lumps to appear. When you lift your arms, your bra back should not lift up.

Now it’s time to check to see if your bra cups fit properly!

Once your bra straps and back are properly adjusted, you should notice that your bra cups lie flat against your breasts without any bunching or space between your breast and your bra cup. Your bra also should NOT be cutting into your breasts in front or at the sides to create an unattractive double-boob effect or overlap. Your underwire should contour and envelop the entirety of your breast tissue under your arms, and lie flat against your ribcage and breastbone.

You know your bra cups are TOO SMALL when…

You can visibly see your breasts spilling out of the top and/or sides of your bra. Never, ever wear a bra if the underwire cuts into you or leaves red marks on your breasts or under your arms when you remove your bra at night! Underwire that is painful usually signals that your bra cups are too small. This can cause you serious problems aside from discomfort, like cutting off your body’s natural circulation to the breast tissue.

If your bra cups are too small BUT your bra back fits, start by increasing your cup size by one (e.g. from A to B, B to C, etc.) or finding a bra style that offers a wider and more flexible underwire. Or, even go wire-free: contrary to what some of you ladies may believe, wire-free bras can have comparable comfort and support to an underwired bra.

You know your bra cups are TOO BIG when…

If you’re experiencing gapping or folds in the fabric of your bra cups BUT your bra back fits, this can signal that your cups are too big. There shouldn’t be any space between your bra cup and your breasts; your breasts should completely fill the space without any spillage. Your girls should never slip out from your bra when you move around or lift up your arms (this is uncomfortable, not to mention this can make for an embarrassing fashion mishap!).

To fix these bra fitting problems and to make sure your bra cups aren’t too small, try to go down a cup size, like from a C to a B, until the underwire fits more snugly and your bra fits against your breasts without causing discomfort or gaps. Use the guidelines above to make sure you  have a perfect fit.

More bra fitting tips!

Some women have come to me with their doctor’s advice not to wear underwire because it’s “unhealthy”. If you’ve heard this before, know that it’s mostly because women typically wear bras too small for them, which can cut off circulation to the surrounding lymphatic areas. Since your body needs to clear itself of its toxins, it is necessary to ensure proper and natural circulation, and squeezing your breasts into a small bra may prohibit your body’s natural functioning. As long as you are wearing the right size, and your breasts are being supported but not squished, wearing an underwired bra should not be a problem. Also make sure not to wear your bra 24 hours a day. It’s important to let them relax and “breathe”!

Always remember that you should do self breast exams periodically, but these should never replace regular breast exams with your doctor. Click here to view images from the American Cancer Society on how to conduct a self breast exam.

Hello I am not sure how these posts work so I don’t know if maybe you missed my post. I’ve always thought I was a 36DD but recently began reading about how bras should fit and have been on a mission to find my size ever since. I am currently squeezing my boobs into a 34DDD. The gore is nowhere near my sternum, I have terrible quad boob, and the band is riding up some I the back. My underbust is about 34.5 in and my bust is 43.5 in. I’ve currently tried on up to a 34H and again, the gore isn’t flat against my sternum, and I get some rolls while the cup is kind of digging into my armpit. Please help!!! Thanks in advance and hope to get a response soon! 🙂

  • admin

    Hello Kris,
    Thank you for contacting us.
If the 34 band is comfortable meaning is not tight or does not ride up then the 34 is the good size.
For the cup size, if the DDD makes it so that you have overflowing of the breast tissue then you need to go up a cup size so 34G would be the next size. https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras.html?size_1=295
Since not all of the bras are made in the same way, I suggest perhaps looking at different styles. I am not sure if you are wearing padded bras, wirefree or underwire, balconette of full cup. I would suggest a style similar to this one https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/p5191-padded-bra-by-affinitas-parfait.html.
I welcome any questions you may have so don’t hesitate to ask.
    Sincerely,
    Celine

    Hello Kris,
Thank you for posting your question. I answered your previous question but given this post, I would like to ask you a couple more questions in order to resolve your issue.
Are you wearing a padded bra?
Are you wearing a wired or wireless bra?
For the 34 band bra, where do you hook the bra in the back, loosest, middle or tightest hook?
Is the style of your bra, full cup like this one https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/3102-carole-wire-bra-affinitas-parfait.html
    Balconet like this one https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/p52312-estelle-balconette-bra-by-parfait-intimates.html
    Please let me know.
    Thanks again

Good morning thanks for the reply! I wear full coverage, non padded, and underwired bras. As for the hook, I usually use the last hook and tighten it as the band stretches. The band feels pretty good. It’s just that my breasts are overflowing out of the cups on top mostly with a little side boob. I had a little overflow of tissue with a 34H that I ordered also. My breasts seem to have exploded after having my 3 children.

  • admin

A very good morning to you Kris.

With the information you gave me right now, the 34 band is definitely your size and as far as the cup size is concerned, you indicate that you have little overflow of breast tissue which is good. If however the breast tissue would increase the next size up would be a 34J.

    Hope this helps.

    All the best

    Hi Celine,

I have the most embarassing problem and am losing hope at finding the perfect bra. I am 27yo and I have extremely small boobs.

    (Without bra)
Fullest part of bust: 29.5inch Underboob: 27.5inch.

According to measuring guides I am a 32B. But there is a gap in my 32B bras. I don’t have a full breast so I wear half cups & lightly padded bras. However, 32A is too tight on me.

I think the problem is that I don’t have a full breast so it can never fill the top part of my 32B cup. (eventhough I only ever wear half cups).

This is so frustrating cause I can only wear crewneck t-shirts to avoid exposing my (non-existence)boobs ?

  • admin

    Hello Rara,
    Thank you for contacting us.
When you indicate that the 32A is too tight for you, do you mean the band?
I would like to address the style and cup size. For the style you indicate that you are wearing half cup bras and lightly padded bras. You should in fact try push up bras. This is an example of the style you should be looking for https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/p13021-lynn-super-push-up-bra-by-parfait-intimates.html. You can also consider push-up pads to insert in your exisiting bras. https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/febf39010-silicone-flirt-enhancers.html. Those will lift and enhance the breast tissue and make it appear fuller thus bigger.
If the 32 band is small and 34 band is too big, you may be in between sizing so I suggest bra extenders which really do the trick. https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/bf50504-bra-back-extender-2-hook-special-european-bra-back-extender-fashion-essentials.html.
I hope this helps. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
    Have a great day.

I have got uneven breasts and my right side is smaller. Currently wearing a 75A which fits my left breast but unfortunately not the right. There is always a gap on my right side. When I bend down, my right nipple can be seen from the top.I can’t find any smaller cup size already… I’ve also tried a smaller 70A but it’s tight so I gave that up. Heeeelppp

  • admin

    Hello Ruby,
Thank you so much for contacting us.
It is very normal for one breast to be a smaller than the other which is why breast pads are available. https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens.html?cat=135 Since the difference is not a full cup size but less I would suggest the push up I would suggest the Umph or the Flirt. I hope this helps. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Hi, my right side breast was made timid Ed and when I use false breast in that place it is not fixed n sit properly n both breast are in straight line, I mean right side moving up . Pl give a tip how to set it right.

  • Caitlin Transue

If I’m understanding correctly, a gap in the cups means the cups size is too big. I’ve been wearing a 38h but I have a gap big enough I can stick my hand in and still have tons of room. So i need to go down to a 38g? I’m kinda in between band sizes honestly 40 is too big and 38 is too small depending on the style.

  • admin

    Hello Ms Transue,

Thank you for contacting us. The issue is with the cup not the band so you are correct you do in fact have to go down a cup size from an h to a g. If the g is too small I would suggest you looking at other brands because sizing is not necessarily the same with all brands.
I hope this helps otherwise please feel free to ask me questions.

    Sincerely

    Celine

  • Erica

Hi, so I have been trying to find a good bra size for a while. I’m pretty confident that my band size is 32, but I’m having trouble with the cup. I have some bras from VS that are 32 DD but I get some breast spillage/quad boob. And I have bras from Aerie that are 34 D and 32 DD which fit better than the VS ones but I still have spillage problems. In both sizes in the Aerie bras, my boobs seem to fit fine in the cup with not much gapping or squishing when static, but the V shape doesn’t seem to come far enough to the center to keep my nipples from shifting out when I’m moving and I find myself having to readjust constantly to avoid a quad boob situation. I tend to get lightly lined Demi styles rather than full coverage. So do I need a bigger cup or perhaps a change in style? Maybe both?

  • admin

    Hello Erica,
    Thank you for contacting us.
If the bra you are currently wearing is 32DD and the breast tissue is overflowing then you need to increase the cup size to a 32E or 32DDD depending on the brand because some brands do not offer DDD sizes so you need to make the equivalence. If you are comfortable with the 32 band and you do not feel tight than the 32 is the preferred band size you should use. If on the other hand the 32 is too tight even at the loosest hook you should upgrade to 34.

As far as the cups are concerned the breast tissue should not overflow so you would need to increase the cup size, one at a time, until you find the size that is the most comfortable for you.

I hope this helps, if not don’t hesitate to let contact me.

    Have a great day.

  • Rebecca

Hello! I’m currently wearing a 38DD, which is what the folks at Lane Bryant measured me at. When I first put my bra on and tuck everything in, it looks perfectly fine, no gapes, bulging, etc. As long as I keep perfect posture, it stays fine. But my breasts are very fatty and not very firm, so when I sit/slouch/move my arms, they just seem to swoop down or shift and leave gapes at the top of my bra – sometimes very small, but sometimes big enough I could shove my hand in there. When I return to a more neutral posture, everything’s fine again. It could be a size issue, but I feel like I might just not be wearing the right style for me. I’m currently wearing tshirt bras, and i recently bought a balconette-style bra that is marginally better but still not great. Any suggestions you could give would be greatly appreciated!

  • admin

    Hello Rebecca,

    I hope all is well.
You described the issue very well so I am able to answer your question. The issue is related to styling. Let me explain. Most of your breast tissue resides towards the bottom, not the top of the bra cups so if the t-shirt bra you are wearing does not have a cup that stretches then when you move top of the cups will crease or gap slightly. There are 2 things you can do. First if you are looking for a fuller cup bra than I suggest one that features a cup that stretches like the following https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/9320-pure-plus-full-coverage-t-shirt-bra-by-montelle-intimates.html. The second and last thing I would like to suggest are balconette or even demi style bras whose cups are not conical, more round, and not too deep. It is very likely that you wear a smaller sized 38DD. I hope this helps, if not please don’t hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Celine 1-855-521-4244

  • Rachael

    Hi,
Currently I am wearing a 34B on the tightest hook but the band is still loose. My rib size is 28 inches and my chest size is 33.5 inches. What bra size would you recommend?

    Thanks!

  • admin

    Hello Rachel,
    Thank you for contacting us.

    I hope all is well.

Basically it would be a 32C. Let me explain. 32 is smaller than 34 so in order to keep the same cup size as a 34b you need to increase the cup from the b to a c when you change the band.

I hope this helps, if not, please let me know.

    Sincerely,

    Celine

  • Cara

    Hi,

I currently wear a size medium in bralettes and that is fine. I wear 32C bra size however I find my breasts tend to spill out from the sides and am having to keep adjusting my bra throughout the day as it is not sitting right. It just does not feel comfortable, I am really confused considering my breasts are not that big. What would you recommend?

  • admin

    Hello Cara,
Thank you for posting with us.
A medium bralette does not have much support. If the breast tissue is overflowing on the sides you need a bigger cup size from a 32C to a 32D. Bralette usually are available in small, medium and large. In order for your breasts to be properly supported you would need the cup size of the 36 however the band will be too big.
I would suggest if you do not like underwires to move to a bra that has the proper cup size.
I hope this helps, if not, don’t hesitate to contact me.
    Sincerely,

    Celine

I have a front closing t-shirt bra that was comfortable the first few times, but is now giving me a problem. Basically, my boobs are escaping at the front. I wouldn’t have expected my size to change significantly in two months and the fit was good when I got it. I’d rather not need to throw away a new bra, but I can’t wear it like this.

  • admin

    Hello Paula,
    Thank you for your email.

    I hope all is well.

It seems that the band is too large for your and since it is a front closure bra the only way you can actually wear them is to have a seamstress sew the sides of the bands in order to decrease the length.

I hope this helps, if not, don’t hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Celine

  • Paula

Thank you Celine. I will try this.

When I got my first bra I was a size 36B, and then I went to a 38B for a few yrs and then I went up to a 38C and I was having spillage coming out of the bra. That I went to get fitted again and I was told that I was bet a 38D and 38DD. I was horrified how I got so big. That I tried on the 38D and it fit rly well. Now recently a few weeks ago I went to get fitted again, and I was told I’m a 36D or either a 38D, I ended up with the 36D. I was so happy I got smaller. But my concern is that it’s not fitting me right, bec it leaves me marks by my band. And when I wore the 38D it didn’t lie flat against my chest. Forgot to say that I’m talking abt the minimizer wacoal bras….
So how do I know what size i rly am?
    Please answer ASAP!!!

  • admin

    Hello Lori,
    Thank you for contacting us.
First and foremost it is important to know that you may not be the same size in all bras. There are a lot of parameters such as fabric, underwire, style etc.

If the bra is leaving you marks on the band it means that the band is a little small. You may be in between the 36 and 38. If that is the case, I would suggest a bra back extender for you to wear on the 36 band bra https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens.html?cat=177.

Let’s address the cup size. Given what you indicated regarding the 38D cup size your ideal size may be a 36DD. Let me explain. The cup of a 38D is similar to a 36DD however the band of the 38 is bigger.

If in the 36D size the only issue you have is that the band is tighter and there is no spillage of the breast tissue, you can either go to a 38C or use an extender.

I hope this helps, if not, don’t hesitate to ask me questions. Sincerely,

    Celine

  • Karen

    Hello,

I purchased a strapless pushup bra recently but I’m not too sure about the fit. The size is a 32D and although the band fits comfortably, the cups feel a bit loose. When i lift both my arms in the air, my breast tissue and the cup are not in contact. Would that mean that the cup size is too large? My breast tissue is more towards the bottom of my breast and when the bra is on the breast tissue and the cup aren’t aligned in a straight line. It feels like the slope of my breast and then the cup isn’t uniform. The person who fitted me said that it was normal because it was for the best coverage. Is that true?

  • Wendy

Hi, hope you can help me too
I usually wear a size 34B and sometimes a 34C depending on how it feels on me

My problem is I can’t find a perfect fit. Either the b cup is too small or the c cup is too big. It’s so frustrating

    I’m sure I’m a 34 but think I could be inbetween b and c

I like lightly padded bras but just wish they would cover my whole boob properly

    Do you have any suggestions

    Thanks

  • admin

    Hello Karen,
    I hope all is well.
The issue you are having is definitely because the cups are slightly big on you although it does not mean that going down a size the cups would fit better. It could be that the style you purchased may not be suitable. With that in mind I would suggest inserting a pad at the base of the cups and retrying the bra. In general when you have a bra on the breast tissue should always be secure in the cups, if they move either the cups, band, or both are not sized properly.
Let me know if you have any questions.
    Sincerely,
    Celine

In general a push up does not secure the breast tissue as would a full cup bra. In order to secure and avoid the breast from slipping out, I would suggest that you tighten the straps a little more or try a bigger cup size.
I hope this helps, if not please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Im currently 16, turning 17 in a few months and i wear a 34A. I dont know if it fits or not. There are no gaps when i stand straight with my shoulders back. But for example, if i lay on my side. Theres a large gap. If im not making an effort to push back my shoulders i get a gap. Even when standing. I don’t know if that’s normal? I feel like i have nothing to wear that fits because A is the smallest and it seriously hurts my confidence. I want to be able to wear something that fits and not be embarrassed about my bras not fitting.
Also my right breast is smaller than my left

  • admin

    Hello Alyssa,
    I hope all is well.
You indicate that when you stand straight the cups of your bra do not gap but when you lay on your side it does. The gap is not relative to the size but to the padding. It is very normal. You basically need a push up bra whose padding stretches, in that way you will need have that issue. One example is the following https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/9315-prodigy-ultimate-push-up-bra-by-montelle-intimates.html. What styles bra do you wear? Do they have a pad at the base of the cup? Please let me know. Celine 1-855-521-4244

  • Blondie

Hi so I’ve had bra problems my entire life and I’m getting desperate. I’ve always fit a 38 band. So, I gained weight last year and began wearing 38 DD in the summer which is significantly larger than I’ve ever been. I know that I’ve worked a bit of The weight off now…because, the straps keep falling and the cup has a little bit of space on the side of my bra and my band didn’t fit right anymore. It seemed tight. I tried on a 38D today and the band is comfortable and my boobs seem to fit but my chest doesn’t feel supported , its a little snug in the cups and the front of the bra in the middle of my boobs kind of bends outwards a bit.
I have broad shoulders and a big rib cage but my figure is an hourglass. This makes clothing buying weird for me. My boobs aren’t super close together but I finally have developed a nice bit of cleavage. My chest is round at the bottom but much more shallow on top.
Please help me! I’ve got back problems and wearing the wrong bra is making it worse!

  • admin

    Hello Blondie,
Thank you so much for your email.
    I hope all is well.
Since you lost the weight and perhaps a bit of weight on the breasts you will definitely need a fuller support bra.
I will give you a couple of guidelines.
Since you indicate that the 38 band is comfortable we won’t address it however, if you close the band at the tightest hook then you need to try a 36 band. The band is very important because it secures the weight of the breast tissue and if the band is too big than the breast tissue won’t be supported causing possible pain on your back. If this is the case you should try a 36DD.
As far as the cups are concerned, you may also be in between sizing at this time where the D is small and the DD is a big.
Can you give me a little more information regarding the style of your bra. Is it padded, underwired?
Thanks and have a great day.
    Celine

  • Emma

I have recently been having problems with bras that fitted well in the past. I think I may have put on half a stone in weight over the last year. (As a result of getting older and not being active enough!). I also have a very wide back, inherited from my mother and grandmothers, which makes finding a good, well fitting bra really difficult. Can’t go for any of the designer brands as they are just not wide enough in the band size. Currently wearing a 42DD with underwire but this has started digging into my back and sides and depending on the style of the bra, there is some overspill in the cup area.(usually from beneath the band rather than at the top of the bra). Balcony bras don’t seem to work on me at all! Do you have any suggestions? Have tried on bras in a wider band width and bigger cup size. Wider band width is more comfortable but the cup size just seems wrong. I don’t fill the whole of the larger cup size and then I am back to square one, wondering what size to buy/try on. Haven’t had a professional bra fitting in ages, as each one I go to suggests a different size and a lot of retail staff don’t seem qualified enough to carry these out properly. One member of staff actually asked me what size bra I was wearing at the time and then just made her assumptions about my bra size from the information I gave her! Any suggestions? I am fast running out of patience with this! You would think in the 21st century that someone would have invented a machine by now that could measure women’s bra size accurately!

  • admin

    Hello Emma,

    Thank you for contacting us.
Since you are currently wearing a 42DD and the band started digging in your back and you are experiencing spillage of the breast tissue I suggest you try a 44DD https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras.html?size_1=476. Balcony or 3/4 cup bras would be best for you. Here are some styles that would work https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/p5372-ava-unlined-wire-bra-with-lace-by-parfait-lingerie.html, https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/p5332-irene-unlined-wire-bra-by-parfait-intimates.html, https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/p5352-sandrine-unlined-wire-bra-by-parfait-intimates.html. Please help! I cannot find a bra that doesn’t kill my ribs! I have measured a few times myself and at a boutique, both say I am supposed to be 38G or 38DDD.

    I have tried 38DD 38DDD 38f 38G and 40DD 40DDD 40f 40G

the G’s seemed to be a little big where the straps meet the cups in the front, but all of these bras are the same, they seem to fit fine everywhere and for an hour they fit fine but then the bras just digs into me under my boobs and starts to feel like I’m being squeezed around my chest/ribs.. The gore on all these bras are at an angle, flat on the bottom not really on the top, I don’t know if it’s a sizing thing or I am a wimp and cant handle underwire. I used to wear a 36D but I have gained weight, a lot, and my band size is measured at 38/39 my cups are measured at 44/45. If you can help me figure out what the issue might be I would be sooo grateful. I have bought and had to return at least 7 times and many different stores.

I remeasured and actually, it is 37 band and 46 in the cups. when I measured the cups I had the tape pulled a little tight around my boob so it wasn’t accurate.

    Hello Ms Sanford,
Thank you for recontacting us with more details regarding the issue.
If the center gore does not lay flat on the breast bone then the depth of the cups is not correct.
We are going to address one thing at a time. Let’s start with the band and disregard the cups.
Which band are you the most comfortable with? 38, 40? When you hook your bra in the back, raise your arms the band should not move. The middle hook is usually the preferred hook, if you close your bra at the tightest, the band will stretch and ride up eventually.
Please let me know the size of the band.
From your description you are wearing underwires. Please answer yes or no to the following questions.
    Is your bra padded?
    Is your bra lined?
Is your bra a demi cup?
    Is your bra a balconette?
Is your bra a full cup?
Does the cup of your bra stretch?
Would you consider a wireless full support bra?

Looking forward to your answers. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Sincerely,
    Celine

    Hello,
My current issue is when walking around, my bra is riding up, causing the under wire to move up, my boobs are not supported under hearth the bra, however the rest of the bra feels comfortable. My straps are loose and slip but I find when tightening them, the bra continues to ride up even worst. Thanks!!

    Hello Ms Morey,
Thank you so much for contacting us.

If your bra is riding up it is because the band is too big. If you wear for example a 36C and the cups are comfortable and the band is riding up, you need to change for a 34D because in that case the band will be small but the “D” cup is equivalent to the “C” cup in the 36.

I hope this helps, if not please let me know if you ahve any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Celine

Currently wearing a 42DD band I think is ok I’m 62 years old my breast are very heavy and are not firm changed to a 42DDD and the cups are bunching so seem to big my breast are always coming out on bottom of bramakes me think not enough support tried many different styles feel very frustrated Help please if you can

  • admin

    Hello Ms Brown,
    Thank you for contacting us.
If the breast tissue is coming out at the bottom it also means that the band is a little too big, so you should be trying a 40 band. This is one of the reasons why you don’t feel as though you have enough support.
You indicated that the cups for the 42DDD are bunching up which means that the cups are too big.

I believe, given what you said, your ideal size is a 40DD or 40E. They are realtively the same, it’s just that some brands offer E instead of the DD.

I am not sure if you wear underwires of if the style of your bra is padded etc. You can let me know and I will more than happy to suggest styles.

    Have a great day

I’m having an issue since my boobs got bigger. I was a 36B but now I’m 36DD. I’ve tried going down a back size and up a cup and going up a cup and down a back size but nothing works. It seems that once your boobs are bigger than a c cup all bras dig into my armpits. It’s like the made the wire to long and too wide. But if I go dorm a cup the fabric doesn’t even cover my nipples! Every style I try is the same.
When I was a B cup I wished for bigger boobs but now I wish I was small again but cause they don’t have wires that come up to high or go too wide. It’s like they don’t give me cleavage anymore and appear to separate them and make my boobs look saggy instead of firm due to being to wide on the cups.

    Hello Emily,

    Thank you for contacting us.
    Your question is easily answered.
You are correct the issue relates to the wires but more specifically to the padding and style.
I assume you are wearing underwire bras since you indicated that the bras dig into your armpits but you did not mention if the bras you are wearing are padded.
If you hook your bra to the loosest hook perhaps trying a 38D might avoid some of the digging into the armpits, if you close your bra to the middle hook, than you should stay with the 36 band.
If the bra is padded I suggest a style whose padding stretches.
An example would be as follows: https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/54414-modern-finesse-t-shirt-bra-with-lace-by-triumph.html
    https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/56816s-beauty-full-darling-underwire-bra-by-triumph.html
The following is a great style bra https://www.nowthatslingerie.com/all-styles-catalog/womens/lingerie/bras/6901.html. It offers very good support and has cleavage.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

My underwires have always left my skin red at the end of the day, never knew it mean the bra was ill-fitting until I read this today. Great post! Will measure myself properly next time. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for your comment.
    It is greatly appreciated.

I am having an issue with fit (not shocking in the least, but I can’t quite figure out how to address. I haven’t seen my issue addressed, but if it has been, please point me to the correct place! Don’t want to waste your time.)

My issue is that I am quite squishy in muscle tone around my rib cage. So, if I find a bra that doesn’t LOOK too tight in the band, it rides up in the back. This is usually a 38B or 40B bra. If I tighten the bra so it doesn’t slip in the back (squished in around the ribs, but not uncomfortable) the bra starts to slip up in the front. This is usually a 36B bra.

No matter what size I buy, the band seems to stretch out after a few months (which would indicate it being too small, but it slips up in back if I go up a size….)

I feel frustrated as to address one issue creates a different one elsewhere. I have tried loosening/ lengthening the straps, tightening the straps.

No matter what, the fit isn’t smooth along the sides under my arms, and my bra either slips up in front or back. The cup (when the band is in the right place) looks the right size for the breast. I have tried a C cup, but it bags at the top, so that feels too big.

    Help?

I went shopping for a bra today and again got very mad at the sales person. A month ago one tried to fit me into a 34 D even though I said, I cannot even stand 36 and need a 38 with a small cup. Today the sales associate started arguing with me about my size and would not stop saying 36 C. I was wearing a padded 36 C with a 2 inch extender and told her that. The cup also has some space so clearly I’m not a C. I’m a B with a large ribcage. I got the same old speech about how snug a bra should fit. I DO NOT CARE!! It took me years to realize that 36 is the reason for my upset stomach. The moment I went a size up the pain went away. The only problem is that 38 B is too big and I would love to try a 38 A but can’t find one. The person at VS said that for 38 A I would have to be flat chested!!! Not true. 38 A is 36 B. What is it with these people? Needless to say I didn’t buy anything at the store and complained to the manager about the sales person. She was so rude. If my bra is causing an upset stomach then it’s too tight. I cringe when I read about ladies getting fitted and then walking home with a band one size smaller. Yes, it might look great on you but does it really feel good?
