Today’s fashion lesson: everything can be turned into a dress; even a blazer!
The blazer is no longer just that jacket that’s part of a suit that you have to wear to work. It’s a fashion staple necessary for any stylista’s wardrobe, and it’s also the inspiration for the hottest dress style around.
It could be an oversized boyfriend blazer you find that extends to your knees, or it can be a dress specifically designed with the typical features of a blazer. Our favorite celebrities have embraced this trend completely, creating the ultimate sexy power woman aesthetic we all love to express.
We’ve seen the blazer dress pop up all throughout award show season and Fashion Month this year with celebs galore showing off their gams and sometimes, their lingerie or lack thereof. Karlie Kloss wore a Caroline Herrera blazer dress to the Met Gala with a very plunging white button up by the same designer for an easy look that any lady could wear to any event. Reese Witherspoon highlighted her gorgeous golden skin and blond hair with a dazzling blue Stella McCartney blazer dress at the Emmys this year.
Each Fashion Week this year seemingly saw a celeb or two land on the best dressed lists for their blazer dress ensembles. Earlier in the year, Diane Kruger stunned at the Jason Wu show with a very bold blazer dress that played with color blocking and asymmetry. Adriana Lima also played with asymmetry in a plaid Dior Lee blazer dress.
Even our young starlets paving the way for hot fashion trends are loving the blazer dress. Bella Hadid looked radiant in a hot pink Off White blazer at the CFDA Fashion Awards. Elizabeth Olsen showed off her killer legs in a black blazer dress at the ESPY Awards. One of the coolest interpretations of a blazer dress was sported by none other than Kendall Jenner, who paired a satin printed Palm Angels blazer dress with sneakers!
No matter your budget, your size, or your comfort level when it comes to showing skin, you’re bound to find a blazer dress you love almost anywhere. If you don’t want to show off your legs, a simple pair of tights, whether opaque or semi-sheer, will do the trick.
Many celebs opt to go braless under a blazer dress, and if you’re comfortable doing that, cool! If not, may we suggest plucking your most fabulous bra out of your drawer and using your new blazer dress to show it off?
When it comes to your bottoms, we feel being a bit more conservative is key. A great shapewear panty can be functional and comfortable with such a risque look, and it can give you the amount of coverage you need so you’re not preoccupied with potential wardrobe malfunctions. A stretchy shapewear slip can be just as nice!
