Classic chic is back with a vengeance this year, and with our blog post on getting Dita Von Teese’s look, we showed readers how to bring out their sultry, bombshell side. This time around, we’ll talk about the more demure and sweet side of things with two now trends –lace and the Duchess of Cambridge!
Royal fashion almost inevitably brings to mind visions of tiaras, long ball-gowns, and even ‘conservative’ business suits. But thanks to the new generation of young royals, sartorial palace splendor has improved by leaps and bounds, and Kate (as we still like to call her) has certainly pulled her weight in that department! In fact, the ‘Kate effect’ as we now know it, is impressive and has not waned since her marriage to Prince William!
Kate is no stranger to the allure of beautiful lingerie and lace – the Daily Mail reported seeing the Middleton girls at a lingerie boutique a fortnight before the royal wedding. Not to mention that lacy slip that she wore as a dress the night she showed a new side of herself to William! And from her timeless Alexander McQueen wedding dress to the sleek concoctions by Erdem, McQueen, Jenny Packham and Temperley, she’s worn lace with positive panache! So how about letting some of that Kate effect influence your special lingerie drawer?
Here are some styles that combine the best of lace and lingerie in one delightful package!
Right: Allure Noire Semi-Sheer Lace Chemise by Blush Lingerie
Kate wore a stunning lace Temperley gown to the premiere of ‘War Horse’, and showed a natural talent for walking the red carpet.
This elegant chemise has sheer panel details, an intricate floral pattern and a flattering deep v-neck. If you’d like to wear it to a movie premier, cover up with a matching skirt, and let the top peek out for a tantalizing hint.
Right: ‘Penelope’ long sheer mesh chemise by Arianne
You may not want to strut around outside in this sheer chemise without good cause, but ooh the similarities! Enjoy this flirty number at home. It’s quite the romance-starter, we hear!
Sadly, we will never know what exactly it is that Kate purchased at the lingerie boutique, but we bet they were cute, cheeky and comfy, like these Brazilians, thongs and hipsters.

Kate wore red (gasp!) to a wedding last year, and while we may be more conscious of upstaging the bride, we think this red garter slip lace set by Dreamgirl is perfectly acceptable to wear in more intimate settings!

Because lace is full of intricate patterns and details already, it is a fantastic way to introduce a little luxury into your pretty underthings. Keep the rest of your ensemble simple and neat, and it will naturally take center-stage. Just take a look at how the lovely Duchess does it, and your boudoir will be fit for a princess!
