The Met Gala is one of the most fantastical nights of fashion eagerly anticipated every year, and this year was no exception!
With a theme dedicated to the wonderful Rei Kawakubo’s Commes des Garcons, we had a feeling the red carpet wouldn’t disappoint. Kawakubo has been a leading fashion force for decades, inspiring fashion to be innovative, creative, and incredibly artistic.
So let’s see which celebrities successfully pushed the boundaries of fashion and art at this year’s Met Gala!
Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren
We’re not sure anyone other than Ralph Lauren could make a trench coat so glamourous, and we can’t see anyone but Priyanka Chopra wearing it.
Yes, your eyes don’t deceive you; the trench coat inspired frock has a raised collar, showed off Chopra’s amazing legs, and has an out-of-this-world train that cascaded behind her. It’s a creative and absolutely brilliant dress that’s modern and yet so very classic.
Rihanna in Commes des Garcons
While this dress is nothing short of impractical, there’s no denying its beauty, and there’s no denying that Rihanna is the queen of the Met Gala. She always manages to mesh so well with the theme, and she honored it this year in a floral piece straight off the Commes des Garcons runway.
This dress encapsulates what the evening was about – fashion not taking itself too seriously, but yet using the medium to create masterpieces that transcend the norm.
Laura Osnes in Christian Siriano
This custom look by Christian Siriano is so beautiful, we could see it on the best-dressed list of just about any event.
The revealing crop top perfectly complements the voluminous, ruffly skirt that reminds us of a beautiful cloud. It’s soft, it’s dramatic, but it’s not too much and doesn’t swallow Laura up. This dress proves that fashion can be artistic while also being very wearable.
Cara Delevigne in Chanel
While Cara’s Chanel suit was a fairly safe look for the Met Gala, it’s too stunning not to mention.
The bold pattern is stunning against the stark silver color, and the low neckline with nothing underneath is a very modern, sexy look. Cara perfectly accessorized with a silver belt and silver pumps, and of course, who could forget about that silver hair?
Tracee Ellis Ross in Commes des Garcons
What could have been a simple sheath dress is so much more thanks to angular details and a striking color.
Tracee Ellis Ross made a brilliant choice in this Commes des Garcons dress that is super edgy, and once again, perfectly captures the theme of artistic fashion. Also, her shoes couldn’t have been more perfect, complementing the edge of her dress.
Blake Lively in Atelier Versace
Blake Lively just never does any wrong when it comes to fashion.
She looks like a captivating mermaid in a long gold gown with a plunged neckline and gold chain layered detail. The addition of blue feathers on the hem transforms the frock into something magical. It fits Blake like a glove and is a subdued representation of art and fashion.
Anna Wintour in Chanel
We couldn’t leave out the chair of the Met Gala!
Wintour was an ethereal dream in a lovely Chanel dress with gold glitter sprinkled everywhere, and a cute little tulle accent. The dress complements her figure so well, and has just enough whimsy not to overpower.
