“Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.”

We have all heard the poetic saying, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.  This little bridal ritual dates back to the Victorian era, symbolizing a beautiful continuity from one generation to another, bringing together family and friends during the wedding plans.  With all the stresses of putting together a wedding, brides certainly have a lengthy to-do list – this little scavenger hunt is a lot of fun.  It’s also a great way to bond with friends and family while preparing for such an intimate and memorable occasion!

Looking for something old is a great opportunity to take some time to spend with an older family member, like a grandmother or your mum! If you’re not already getting married in a vintage dress, or adding a piece of lace from your grandmother’s wedding dress, this is a great chance to incorporate some retro elements into your wedding wardrobe. On the other hand, if you have a more classic and traditional vision for your big day, jewelry might be the way to go.  After all, diamonds are a girl’s best friend and have been for years; what a great excuse to don beautiful, vintage pieces that have been in your family for generations!

Something new is more simple, since most brides will be wearing a new gown and lingerie beneath it.  But this tradition also gives you the chance to spoil yourself; think along the lines of a beautiful new bustier, like Blush’s Angel Flirt front-opening corset, or a lacy garter belt that you might not have felt justified in splurging on before.

When thinking of something borrowed, think of your closest friends.  You can see if you can get a friend to lend you a piece of jewelry that means something special to them (eg the same pearl earrings your best friend wore at her own wedding), or even something simple like her favorite ivory open-toed sandals.

Wearing blue is meant to represent fidelity, purity and loyalty between the bride and groom.  Now, if you haven’t already incorporated something blue into your wedding colour scheme or jewelry choices, this might seem tricky. Think, lingerie! Light blue panties, garter belt or a blue ribbon through a thigh garter (Like Blush’s Sweet Nothings lace garter) can finish up this good-luck tradition easily, an amazing start to your new married life!

Enjoy getting ready for the big day!
