Seams: What Do They Do?

Understanding the way a garment is made is very helpful for understanding what you should look for when shopping. This is especially true when it comes to your lingerie. For most of us, the majority of the lingerie we wear is for a specific and practical purpose. We want our lingerie to achieve various things – lift, support, shaping, smoothing, and so much more. For these things, one of the things we should pay attention to is the seams.

Seams are essentially what is used to bring the fabric of a garment together. However, they can also be strategic tools to help the garment do more than just cover the body. The power of the seam can be seen a lot in fashion, but also in lingerie, especially with bras. It’s something that a woman may overlook because she doesn’t understand that there’s more of a purpose to a seam than just simply holding the cups in place. There are also different types of seams that can do different things to the breast, and knowing which one will do what you are hoping for out of a bra will help you navigate #ShopNTL so much more easily.

Some bras have partial seams which are placed in the middle bottom part of the bra cup. These seams are essentially to help shape the breast, and don’t lend much help to supporting the breast. It’s a fairly common seam style in many bras.

Similarly, there are bras that have these middle seams that extend all the way up to the top of the bra. They are often referred to as vertical seams. These full seams can help add to the lifting effect of the bra, and the more seams going up and down, the more support can be seen.

There are also three-part bras, where it appears that three different pieces of fabric have been sewn together. This is true, and lends itself to the shape of the bra. A three-part bra is great for someone who wants a lot of support. This type of bra also gives off a rounded shape in the breast.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are seamless lingerie options that are gaining much more popularity, especially when it comes to panties. So many ladies worry about panty lines and feel as though seams are what leads to them. This can be true if the panty doesn’t fit, but isn’t true in all cases.

Seamless options can still showcase your curves and give you lots of support, but are clean cut and disappear under clothing. Essentially, a heat source is used to fuse the ends of the fabric together so that there is no visible seam to be seen. A moulded bra is a seamless bra that uses this heat technology to fuse together the fabric over a breast mould. If you want coverage and a smooth, even shape underneath your clothing, consider trying out a moulded bra! Fit can be a little bit more tricky as the shape is more pronounced in a moulded bra, so try a couple of different styles to see what gives you the finish you desire.

With all of the advances in technology used to create lingerie, seamed lingerie or seamless lingerie can both help a woman look her best and feel fabulous.
