We would be lying if we said it wasn’t fun to receive presents during the holidays, but it’s even more rewarding to give to others who are in need.
If you’re looking for a last minute gift idea for the generous people in your life, or if you’re wanting to do a good deed to balance out the holidays, here are some beautiful charity programs and initiatives you can give to in the spirit of the holidays.
Note: We checked each charity we included through Charity Navigator to find the most accountable charity programs we could.
Food For The Hungry
There are many villages and countries in the world who don’t have access to resources that we often take for granted.
Food For The Hungry allows you to purchase a resource – for example, some coffee seedlings, livestock, school supplies – and gift them to people around the world who need them. Once you purchase your item, you can send an E-card to your friend so they have a reminder of your generosity!
This website also allows you to sponsor children if you’d like to continue doing something wonderful into 2018.
Gift Your Local Food Bank
We all have food banks in our community, and the holidays are a big struggle for all of them. Many food banks see their resources drained during the holidays, leaving almost nothing for after the holidays when families are still in need.
Make the biggest impact by calling or visiting your local food bank and seeing what they need. Often times, food banks don’t get enough for proper meals, and don’t often receive toiletries. Once you have a list, pick up some things and drop them off!
Anything that you can afford would be a blessing to your community.
Save The Animals
We all know an animal lover or two, or you may be one yourself.
The Wildlife Conservation Network is a reputable organization who helps professionals continue their incredible work to help preserve conservation areas and save endangered animals. You can pick different wildlife to protect, and choose how you’d like your donation to be used.
There are specific amounts given to help trained professionals continue their work safely and effectively, or help these professionals educate youth on how to preserve wildlife.
Any animal lover would be so happy to see your money go to a cause they care so deeply about!
Adopt A Family
Many churches, community centres, and shelters either run or have information about programs in your local community to adopt families – you’re given a short description and you go out and purchase a gift for this person.
These gifts go to low income families to help them put presents under their tree. Once again, it’s a great way to help out your community.
