The fashion forecast is dark, gloomy, with a little bit of edgy glamour. During New York Fashion week, there was a lot of musical era influences flowing throughout many of the collections. Dark colours, bold patterns, and unique details also reigned throughout the runways, making for a nice change coming up for Fall and Winter this year. Of course, these trends can also be worn this season before the Spring comes, and we’ve got a trend report here to help you get ahead of the fashion game.
Military Style
From oversized, box cut reefer jackets, to large buttons, and lots of camo green, military influence was prominent during New York Fashion Week. It can be a little bit edgy, androgynous, and is a powerful statement. There is also a casual essence about military style that makes it incredibly easy for day to day wear.
Black
Sometimes, it’s nice to wear all black. It’s a classic colour combination that tends to look classy whether or not you’re dressed casually or formally. Lots of all-black ensembles were put together by many designers this year, while many also included black garments. If you are a fan of colour, opt for a coloured heel or a statement necklace for an incredibly stylish touch.
Punk Rock Influence
Music has always influenced fashion, and this season was no exception. There was a bit of the 80s and some hippie-chic style, but punk rock pieces stood out from the rest on the NYFW runways. We saw an influx of punk rock a couple of years ago in fashion before the 70s took control for a little bit. Synonymous with the edge of the season, plaids, black, and leather are just some punk elements that stood on the runways.
Red
While not held up as one of the prominent trends by many fashion editors, it was clear to see that red was one of the most popular colours used in the FW16 collections. This bold hue was done in varying shades, and was a part of many floral and striped patterns. Such a bright colour doesn’t tend to be very popular during fall and winter months, but we’re happy to see the change.
Futuristic Rivets
Rivets are like studs in a variety of shapes and sizes, many of which have clear holes in the middle. We saw rivets decorating quite a few garments that models wore cascading down the runway. They are super cool details that can even add a little sexy appeal to a piece as it can show a little touch of skin.
Nude Tones
From beauty, to shapewear, to lingerie, nude tones are really becoming the favourite of many, and fashion has followed suit. Beiges, browns, nudes, peaches, and blushes took a place in many designers’ collections, and the monochrome looks in these shades were so incredibly luxurious and swoon-worthy. If all-black isn’t your thing, consider nude colours head to toe!
