How To Tackle Stained Lingerie

How do you know when it’s time to ditch the damaged lingerie?

Well, we’ve talked about it before, but when it comes to stains, there is a chance for salvation.

While we may not want to acknowledge how easy it is to stain our lingerie, let’s not get embarrassed! It’s normal, it’s your body doing its thing, and there may be a chance you can save that beloved bra or panty with some of these easy tricks.

For these treatments to be even more effective, try to spot treat your lingerie as soon as possible. It’s also best to hand wash and hang dry right after treatment, especially if that’s what the directions call for.

Deodorant Stains

If you haven’t quite found that perfect anti-stain antiperspirant, you may have noticed some white marks on your bras. These can stand out strongly on darker colored bras, and can be an unsightly addition to a low cut top.

If you have a tough stain that can’t be buffed off, mix some baking soda and water until it becomes a paste. Rub this paste on the stain, and then wash the bra in cold water. If you’re doing this before a laundry cycle, you can place your bra in a mesh wash bag. Let it hang dry though – dryers wreak havoc on your intimates.

Period Stains

Sometimes Mother Nature likes to surprise you when you least expect it, and you may not always be prepared. We try our best to track it, but it’s happened to us all.

It’s best to try to tackle the stain as soon as possible, as it can be stubborn once set for a day or so. Soak the spot in vinegar and let it sit for about five or ten minutes. Blot the spot once it’s finished with a cloth and then wash the panties immediately. A simple soap mixture in the sink will do.

You can also try washing the spot with soap, dabbing on a stain remover, and then a bit of ammonia before washing, in case you don’t have all those things lying around.

Discharge

We can get discharge down there for a variety of reasons. That’s right – it’s not just you! It happens to us all, and sometimes, it leaves stains that don’t always come off with wiping.

You can also grab baking soda to tackle this stain. Rub baking soda onto the discharge spot and rub it strongly into the spot, without damaging the fabric. You can use your fingers or a spare toothbrush. Once you’ve really scrubbed, you’ll want to rinse the underwear in water and soap and let it dry.

Leaked Milk

That’s right mamas; you have the possibility of experiencing a leak. Does that mean you have to say goodbye to that bra?

Chances are, you don’t! First, depending on what kind of stain you have in your bra, you can use household ingredients to get it out.

For yellowy discharge, you can try rubbing shampoo (find one with sulphates) into the spot and rinsing the bra afterwards. For stains with blood, try white wine vinegar in the same fashion.

Dyes

This may be less common, but sometimes with new jeans or colored tops and a hot day, dyes from your clothing can spot your bras or underwear.

If this happens to you, grab some ammonia (1 tablespoon) and half a teaspoon of dish soap and mix it in water. Let the lingerie soak in this mixture for a half hour, then rinse it all out. Hang the lingerie to dry.
