We know that celebrities have a large amount of influence, and many people look up to celebrities for advice, wisdom, and representation.
The internet is also a great place to share stories and ideas, and thankfully, we’ve been able to find some more stars sharing body positive messages that may inspire you!
Demi Lovato on Instagram
Demi has inspired so many young people to be strong, independent, and honest about what they go through. It’s no surprise that she has a lot of amazing things to say about body confidence, including that it’s not always easy, and that’s okay. On her Instagram, she said:
“Just so everyone is clear.. I’m not stoked on my appearance but I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope I can inspire someone to appreciate their body today too.”
Kate Upton on Instagram
Kate Upton is a stunning supermodel, but she knows what it’s like to have people comment on her body too. She recently posed for a magazine cover untouched, and had this to say about her experiences and thoughts about the modelling industry and its unrealistic expectations:
“We live in a world where we are constantly surrounded by retouching and filters, and we don’t even realize it- it’s become the new norm, creating unrealistic expectations. That’s why I loved the idea of doing this shoot unretouched, to take a step towards embracing our true, raw self. Months after giving birth, this wasn’t the easiest choice… but a choice I thought was important for my daughter and for women everywhere.”
Padma Lakshmi
Padma Lakshmi is a very seasoned chef and host, but she’s no stranger to how bodies are discussed in the entertainment world. Of her recent weight gain, she said:
“I’m lucky because I gained weight, exponentially, everywhere. I don’t care… and at the end of the day it’s just about feeling comfortable. I’m done trying to squeeze my bum into something that’s too small. I don’t care. You know, it shouldn’t be about what I look like at this point in my career.”
We also love how she acknowledged how a woman’s looks can often overshadow her professional accomplishments, and how that is totally not okay.
Jonathan Van Ness
We are huge fans of Jonathan’s openness, and we’re so happy he shed a light on a huge problem in body positivity; it’s not inclusive enough of men and other genders. He said:
“We talk about that a lot, especially from a female-oriented perspective, we talk about body shaming, body positivity and what the female gender encounters in that realm…I think in the male side that is not talked about quite as much, and I know that I was severely impacted by that my whole life. Eating disorders, weird relationship with food, for sure.”
Celine Dion
Celine touches on another important issue when it comes to body positivity. Not all bodies are included in the narrative sometimes, and we often forget that we need to celebrate everyone, including people who are skinny. She said:
“Is there anything wrong about my body? I do ballet. I do a lot of stretching and I work out because it helps my mind, body and soul.”
Is there a body positive quote or discussion you’ve heard lately that has inspired you?
