Simple Tips To Add To Your Self Care Routine

With body positivity and self love being such powerful movements, a self care movement has been born that is all about being good to yourself!

Taking care of our minds and our bodies is so incredibly important, but most of us don’t take the time to do even the simplest and most basic things we can do to treat ourselves well. We’re sure most of you would raise your hand if we asked if you typically put others’ needs before your own!

Self care doesn’t need to be super indulgent, time-consuming, or grand. You can start small when it comes to self care and gradually work in new things that work for you and help you feel refreshed and loved.

We’re definitely not doctors or mental health experts, but we have found some super simple tips to add to your self care routine to treat yourself the way you deserve to be treated – you’re worth it, babe!

If you’re really struggling with feeling good about yourself, or find yourself feeling super tired or overwhelmed, please reach out to your doctor to see what’s going on. It’s important to check in with yourself if you’re not feeling like yourself.

Start Journaling

Writing in a journal can take five or ten minutes out of your day, but those few minutes could be so powerful. Journaling can help you focus on gratitude, it can help you record memories and experiences, or it could help you gain perspective on something you’ve been struggling with.

You could find a really pretty and inexpensive notebook to jot down something on your mind each day, or even try a guided journal from Amazon that helps prompt you to really dig into your brain and work through your day.

Try A New Healthy Food

We could all probably afford to eat more fruits, vegetables, or whole foods that nourish our bodies. However, it’s really easy to get into a rut where you just can’t eat the same things all the time.

Something that could be fun, easy, and affordable is to try and find one new fruit or vegetable to try – maybe every two weeks, or even once a month. Pick something on sale that day or chat with a friend to see if they have a simple recipe you could work that healthy food into. You never know what delicious thing you could discover!

Train Your Brain To Empower

You know that saying where if you don’t have anything nice to say, you shouldn’t say anything at all? Well, how about if you have something nice to say, say it!

Sure, it’s a little weird to pay a stranger a compliment. Try to think of a time when someone walked past you and said “nice shirt!” or “I like your hair!” How good did that feel? And no, we don’t mean creepy or unwarranted comments.

A simple compliment, an empowering and supportive message on social media, or sharing something with a friend or family member that is positive and encouraging is a small gesture that could make a huge difference in someone’s self-perception, and it feels amazing to help others feel good.

Now, if you can do that for others, you can do it for yourself! If you find yourself saying bad things about yourself, stop yourself. It’s not always easy, but it does get easier as you keep doing it. Don’t talk down to yourself, either in your mind or out loud. Instead, give yourself a compliment! Take a good look at yourself, and you’ll see just how much is so beautiful about you that you haven’t noticed because you’re used to being not-so-nice to yourself.

Do you have a self care tip that you have found really works for you?
