Spring Clean Your Lingerie: A Refresher Course

Whether or not you would agree that good lingerie is an investment, the amount of money you spend on lingerie will always be wasted if you don’t make the effort to clean it properly.

Some lingerie lovers might groan at this notion, but rest assured, cleaning lingerie appropriately is not as difficult or time-consuming as it sounds. Consider this, as well; investing the time into cleaning your lingerie well is much better than investing your money into pretty things that fall apart much too soon because they were damaged unnecessarily.

In case you want to implement proper lingerie cleaning protocols into your laundry routine but just don’t know where to start, we’re here to give you a refresher course in cleaning lingerie just in time for Spring cleaning!

Hand Washing Is Queen

Hand washing your lingerie might sound like such a tedious task, but there really isn’t much effort needed. All you have to do is fill your sink or tub with some lukewarm water, and add some gentle detergent or lingerie wash to the water. You then just want to gently rub the detergent into the lingerie and rinse it very well.

This should really only take a few minutes to do. Hand washing your lingerie is especially ideal when you have lingerie made from expensive or delicate fabrics, as you want to preserve those pieces of lingerie for as long as you can. Hand washing also helps you get a more thorough, precise clean on your lingerie, which is important since it touches sensitive parts of your body.

How To Wash Lingerie In The Washing Machine

When you need some clean lingerie but maybe don’t have time to hand wash all the time, you can put some of it in the washing machine. However, you should be careful when you do this. Don’t wash with super hot water, and use a very gentle detergent. You should also make sure any hooks are fastened.

Lingerie wash bags can also help make sure your lingerie doesn’t catch on other clothes or other pieces of lingerie, which can cause rips and tears. They can also help protect your lingerie from getting damaged due to the motion of the laundry machine.

Say No To The Dryer

The dryer is bad news for your lingerie. The heat is too much for the delicate fabrics, and it can cause them to fray. Your best bet is to let your lingerie either hang dry or dry on a flat surface. It usually doesn’t take very long for your lingerie to dry this way.

Why Is Cleaning Your Lingerie Properly So Important?

Apart from the hygienic reasons why clean lingerie is a must, cleaning it properly is one of the best ways to make your lingerie last as long as possible. We can’t all afford to replace our lingerie all the time. Plus, you’ll feel much more confident wearing lingerie that is intact and looking fresh, even if you’ve had it for a long time.
